Buxton Pratt Consulting – supporting Opportunity International Australia
BPC is thrilled to announce that we have joined in supporting Opportunity International Australia (Opportunity) in the fight against poverty. BPC provide a small monthly donation to Opportunity, which in turn provides mothers with small loans to assist them in establishing small businesses that will continue to grow to not only support the immediate family but benefit the wider community and break the cycle of poverty.
More than 20 countries benefit from Opportunity, with items such as sewing machines purchased to help the mothers set up small businesses. This then allows the mother to provide food for her children, along with schooling and help transform her family’s future for generations to come.
Lea used to earn just Rp.25,000 (A$2.20) a day from her small farm in Indonesia. A loan of Rp.500,000 (A$46) meant she could buy fertiliser, increase her harvest and earn enough to send her daughter to school.
Seema lives in a slum just outside Delhi in India. She struggled to feed her 5 children - rarely eating 3 meals a day. Their home is a makeshift hut, with a dirt floor and a blanket hanging as a door. But Seema dreamed of giving more to her children.
Thanks to the small loan from Opportunity International Australis, today Seema is running her own business – a roadside shop. Her children are in school and she is working hard to move them out of the slum.
Common businesses are set up are:
• small farms • grocery stores • second-hand clothes stores • bakeries • kiosks and cooking stalls • fruit and vegetable stalls • tailors • carpentry businesses • taxi services
With 98% of loans repaid the money is able to be reused and support others in need.

Buxton Pratt Consulting - Sponsoring Cwele Asiphe through World Vision Australia
Buxton Pratt Consulting has been sponsoring a child Cwele Asiphe through World Vision Australia since December 2005.
The Umzimkhulu Area Development Programme, situated near to the Indian Ocean in East London, South Africa, commenced in 2005. The project was set up to create and provide education, health and food knowledge, along with clean water and basic needs. Through the continued and ongoing support of Buxton Pratt Consulting with regular monthly donations - the project is on target for completion in September 2018 - when the area will become self-sufficient.
Cwele is currently in Grade 5 of Primary School and lists her favourite subjects as Art, and the Xhosa language. Xhosa is one of the official languages of South Africa, and is spoken by approximately 7.6 million people - about 18% of the South African population. Xhosa is a tonal language with the most distinctive feature being the prominence of click consonants.
Cwele’s favourite animal is a dog, and she enjoys watching TV! Her favourite colours are red and white and she enjoys drawing hearts and flowers.
Buxton Pratt Consulting has enjoyed watching Cwele grow and develop over the past 8 years, and we look forward to her continued improvement in the quality of her life going forward.
Buxton Pratt Consulting - Supporting Various Charities
Buxton Pratt Consulting support a range of charities throughout the year, including the Immune Deficiencies Foundation Australia (IDFA) which cares for children and adults with primary Immune Deficiencies by providing financial, emotional, educational, and specialist medical support.
Annually we support the IDFA foundation through events such as Razzamatazz, and Circus Quirkus which allows groups of children to attend an entertaining mix of Circus acts from all over the world.
Earlier this year the complete staff of Buxton Pratt Consulting helped prepare and serve a three course lunch at the Sacred Heart Mission in St Kilda. The Sacred Heart Mission provides a meals service for people who are on the fringes of our society. Serving about 300 meals per day - 365 days per year to those who are experiencing homelessness, living in boarding houses, have addictions or are suffering
Our day consisted of general food preparation (washing, peeling and cutting veggies), cleaning and set up of the dining hall, meet and greeting those coming in for lunch. We all had allocated jobs from serving food, clearing tables and washing dishes, pots and pans! At the end of the lunch service the floors were swept and mopped and the diners all left with full tummies. A very rewarding and different day to that spent in the Buxton Pratt Consulting office!
We have also supported Chain Reaction which is the Ultimate Corporate Bike Challenge that raises money for sick children by challenging senior executives who have a passion for cycling and an awareness of their corporate and social responsibilities, to ride a 1,000 plus kilometre course in 7 days.
Chain Reaction is not a mass-participation event; instead it concentrates on selected individuals who want the physical challenge. In return, they benefit from a valuable networking opportunities and the immense satisfaction of directly helping sick children.
